TREK GRADES

The treks are graded according to a variety of factors like altitudes covered, length of trek, degree of difficulty and the numbers of hour of walking required each day.

Grade Description
Easy These treks are like an extended nature walk and anyone can enjoy them. You won't be walking for more than 4-5 hours each day and the trails don't exceed 2,000 m in altitude. These treks are short and do not require much strenous physical exertion. The temperature is generally pleasant. A reasonable level of fitness is required.

Easy Plus These treks involve walking about 5-6 hours a day. Maximum altitudes do not exceed 2,999 m in Annapurna Region and 3,400 m in the Everest region

Moderate These treks involve walking about 6-7 hours a day. Maximum altitudes traversed are 4,000 m. These treks are designed for people of average fitness. A moderate program of physical preparation is required.

Moderate - Challenging On these treks, you will be walking at an average of 6 hours each day. The altitude will occassionally reach above 5,000 m. You have to be in very good physical shape and there will be some really arduous days on the trail. A strong program of physical preparation is required.

Mountaineering You will be travelling in very remote mountainous areas and the trails sometimes reach altitudes in excess of 5,400 m. The trek will involve crossing high mountain passes and includes climbing a "treking peak" which is over 6,000 m in height. Participants should have basic mountaineering skill and must produce a health certificate. Climbers should bring their own climbing equipment.

TREKKING SEASONS
Seasons

Spring & Autumn (Feb-May; Sept-Nov ) The best time of the year to trek in Nepal, warm days and clear skies make it ideal for all treks.

Winter (Dec-Jan) This season is also good but the air can be quite cold at high altitudes, however, low-altitude trekking and jungle safaris can be done. This is a very good time for those who want to avoid crowds.

Monsoon (June-Aug)

These three rainy months are characterised by clouds and humid heat at lower altitudes, therefore not suitable for trekking in most part of Nepal. However this is the best time of the year to visit Tibet as it is warm and also the rain-shadow regions north of the Himalay - like Mustang. These regions are out of reach of the rain clouds because of the massive Himalayan barrier, and thus they are largely unaffected by the monsoon.
